Using the Launch DB Programming menu option, you can launch the online session for the active connection. If the DB Programming session is already running, this action causes DB Programming session to become the active application.
NOTE: The Launch DB Programming option does not appear if there are no connections or no connection is selected. If any files needed to run DB Programming are missing, this option will be disabled.
Do one of the following:
If there are multiple DB Programming versions installed compatible with the connected system version, unless setup options indicate otherwise, the latest version is used. If setup options indicate to offer a choice (see Always use latest compatible DB Programming version), the Select Version dialog box appears. All installed, compatible DB Programming versions are listed in order from the newest to oldest, with the newest selected by default. Select the version you want to launch, and then click OK.
Keep the following considerations in mind:
The same name that is used for the connection is automatically assigned to the online session. That name appears in the status bar at the bottom of the DB Programming window and in the Windows taskbar icon for the DB Programming application instance.
Whenever DB Programming is started, whether for an online or offline session, the Select Version dialog box may appear. The suggested versions appearing at first are those compatible with the last detected version for the system. Click Show all versions to show all installed DB Programming versions, if you know that the system was recently upgraded or downgraded and will need a different DB Programming version. (The last detected version for the system can be incorrect only in rare cases when the System Administration & Diagnostics application has not connected to the system since the upgrade or downgrade. This can occur if a new connection is created but not yet activated, if the Web server is using a non-default port different from that programmed for the connection, or if there are other connection issues.)
If the Show IP ports option is enabled (see General Tab), the dialog box appears with the additional capability of changing the listening port setting:
Whenever DB Programming is started for the active connection, if not already connected, System Administration & Diagnostics automatically connects to the system. If the connection is Modem or Remote Configuration, System Administration & Diagnostics launches DB Programming as soon as the connection is complete. If the connection is onsite or Network, launch takes place immediately.
After an online or offline DB Programming session is started, you cannot cancel or terminate the session from the System Administration & Diagnostics application. You must use the DB Programming window to perform those operations.
Select File – Exit in the main DB Programming window.
