Pure IP Phone System                                                                                                                    Back To TOP

What is a Pure IP System A Pure IP system simply means that the phone system adhears strictly to IP protocols and equipment. This means that it's possible that simply adding traditional anolog devices could cost more than a Hybrid system would.
Is it better to have a Pure IP Depending on the application you wish to implement it could possibly be a cheaper solution Than a Hybrid. Keep in mind, this would mean that you have no or little anolog devices you wish to add to your system. Otherwise, you would want to look into investing in a Hybrid system.
Why would I want an IP system IP phone systems are very flexible. Not only can you get media rich applications to your IP phone like your outlook contacts but can also have remote branch offices connected and teleworkers from home connected to your system as an actual extension making and recieving calls and can have full voice mail functionality just as if they were at the office.
Will I lose common phone system functionality with IP phones on a pure IP system As long munufacture provide IP phones are purchased, you should be able to have all the functionality that is claimed by the manufacturer. Purchasing SIP phones that the manufacturer has tested with their system will be limited to what functionality the manufacturer says theyre capable of. It is true that even many of the best Pure IP phone systems out there still do not have all the full features you are used to in a phone system like a hybid phone system does. this is why Extenda carries both product types so we can meet any customer needs, regardless of what they want.

Hybrid Phone System                                                                                                             Back To Top

Is a Pure IP Phone System better than a Hybrid one Its not so much a question of better as to what do you want on your new phone system. A hybrid phone system is built to support both IP and VoIP functions and also be compatible with more traditional types of phone system devices like anolog phones, faxes and other equipment a normal business is used to which could be more costly if these are added to a Pure IP phone system.
Can my Hybrid or a Hybrid Phone System I'm looking to purchase do everything a Pure IP System can do In just about every instance, yes. the question is actually answered the other way around. It is hard for a Pure IP phone system to compete with a hybrid system like the Mitel and Samsung. This is because many of the pure IP systems, while very nice and seem capable, are still playing catch up to hybrids while the hybrid system Extenda uses can do everything and more that a Pure IP phone system..
Can I have an IP phone work at my home, fill a branch office with IP phones rather than buying several phone system or Network several locations with a Hybrid phone system Yes, yes and yes. A hybrid phone system like the Mitel and Samsung can have IP phones connected to it from anywhere in the world, as long as it has an internet connection and is programmed properly. Many of our customers have entire branch offices or second buildings in the same business park filled with IP phones connected to their one system. This is a very cost effective you have several sites or remote teleworkers. They can all use the same voice mail, WOW. Yes, it is possible to Network 2 or more locations with a Hybrid phone system..
Is it possible that my current phone system is a Hybrid If you purchased a phone system from Extenda, it is most likely a Hybrid phone system. In some cases, this could mean connecting VoIP devices to your phone system can be as easy as a configuration change, license purchasing or just buying IP phones.

SIP Trunks                                                                                                   Back To Top

What are SIP Trunks SIP trunks are a technology that allows your phone calls to leave your business over an Internet connection. Calls could go out over your existing connection if the speed will allow for good quality of calls or it may be a new dedicated Internet service you purchase. Either way, SIP trunks are quickly providing savings above other traditioanl phone services such as anolog lines, T1 or PRI's.
Is New Equipment Needed This depends on your current network equipment and phone system. A good router is needed. In some cases a SIP trunk provider will loan you their recommended router just for purchasing their service.
I've heard you can get a Gazzilion calls on a DSL line Be very careful about trusting what you hear. A good rule of thumb is to expect about 88 kbps per concurrent call. This includes the bandwidth for the actual call and the overhead that is needed to make the call happen. An example would be: It may be possible to get 17 calls on a dedicated T1 with toll quality. Yes, there is compression that can be done, " BUT ", there is no guarantee of good quality with compressed SIP trunks. Be very careful before you sign contracts.
Should I speak to an expert before purchasing SIP trunks YES!!! Be sure to find out the facts. There are many factors to consider before making the leap from regular phone services to SIP trunks. Be sure to speak to an expert.

IP Phones                                                                                                                       Back to Top

What are IP phones IP phones are phones that use the Internet Protocol ( IP ). This means that your IP phones can be connected to your local network or can be taken with you if your on a business trip if it is configured properly.
What are the benefits of an IP phone 1 - You IP phone can be used remotely as a teleworker device if it is      configured properly.
2 - IP phones can be easily moved to other locations in your office provided      there is a network connection without calling your phone company.
3 - Some phones have multi-media ability easing your work environment.
4 - The Mitel platform has IP phones that are more affordable than most digital phones.
There are more benfits and our customer service department would be happy to answer any questions you have. Feel free to contact us and have all your questions answered.
Can my current phone system support IP phones If you purchased a phone system from Extenda within the last 5 years, the odds are, it will support IP phones. Please contact us to find out if any licenses or equipment is needed.
If you have purchased your phone system elsewhere, feel free to contact Extenda and we would be happy to help you find out if your phone system has the ability to support IP phones.
Are IP phones easy to add to my phone system You definately want to have an expert analyze your current office wiring. IP phones take CAT 5 or higher rated cable to work. Most building phone wiring will not support IP phones. If you do not have CAT 5 or higher wiring for IP phones, the alternative is to use existing computer wiring. All Extenda IP phones come with the ability to let your computer and IP phone share the same wiring.

Voice T1                                                                                                                         To Top
What is a voice T1 A voice T1 is a technology that lets you have up to 24 phone calls on two pairs of phone wires. Compared to the traditional, 1 call per 1 pair of phone wire, this is an amazing technology. This is why the phone companies make it more affordable for you if you purchase a T1.
When should I get a T1 It is commonly thought that if you have 12 or more phone lines on your phone system, that this is the time to look into seeing if a T1 would save you money.
How does a T1 save me money A T1 is not just more affordable than multiple phone lines just for the actual monthly service cost, but also the long distance charges are usualy much more affordable.
Can I just add a T1 onto my phone system Not normally. You first need to have the ability to add a T1 interface card. Next you need an actual interface card and finally you need to order the service. It is best to have an expert first analyze your current phone bill to see if a T1 would actually save you money and then see what it would take to move you onto a new T1 service.

Data T1                                                                                                                          To Top
What is a data T1 A data T1 is just one of many types of Internet services. The speed you get with a T1 is 1.544 Mbps. That is upload and download speed.
What are the benefits of a data T1 The benefits of a data T1 are not so much measured by the speed or bandwidth, but rather by the gauranteed service provided. Unlike Cable or DSL where the actual bandwidth available to you may fluctuate based on different variables, a T1s bandwidth is gauranteed. Most carriers have a service level agreement they abide by. This means not only is the bandwidth gauranteed, but the actual service uptime is also gauranteed.
Can I get T1 modems from the local computer store No. Data T1 equipment is normaly more costly than your usual cable or DSL modem. You also need qualified technicians to install the T1 equipment and service.
It sounds like a data T1 is not worth it, why would I need one Companies that have data T1s for their Internet connection are companies that rely heavily on their ability to access the Internet at all times. This is where the gauranteed uptime of a T1 comes in. DSL and cable, in many cases have more bandwidth than a T1 but the gauranteed bandwidth and uptime to some companies who have mission criticle needs for their business outweighs the bandwidth.

MPLS                                                                                                                      To Top
What is MPLS Multiprotocol Label Switching, MPLS is a high performance IP network that has become an excellent alternative to Frame Relay. If implemented properly, it can provide robust support for both your data and VoIP needs
Do I need MPLS MPLS is mainly for companies that have multiple locations, considered a WAN, that need to be connected together for some reason or another. It is also an excellent medium for multimedia applications and securely connecting branch offices and teleworkers.
How do I get MPLS Once you determine you are a candidate for MPLS services, a MPLS carrier would need to work closely with you or your IT staff to make sure all aspects of your network are considered, such as VoIP, video conferencing or any other special services.
Can my current network equipment support MPLS In most cases no. Many carriers actually provide the equipment needed. Extenda can assist you in finding a competitive MPLS carrier that can meet your companies multi site needs. And in many cases is is much more affordable than a point to point solution.

WAN                                                                                                                          To Top
WAN stands for Wide Area Network. As its name suggests, it is a computer network that covers a far wider area than a LAN (Local Area Network). WANs cover cities, countries, continents and the whole world.
A WAN is formed by linking LANs together. For example, several major LANs in a city can connect together forming a WAN.
When networks connect to form a bigger network (a bigger WAN), the resulting network is called an internetwork, which is generically abbreviated to ‘an internet’. Now when all WANs in the world connect forming a global internet, we call it The Internet, which everyone knows! That’s why the Internet is always written with a capital I. It is the biggest WAN we have.

VoIP                                                                                                                         To Top

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet or other packet-switched networks. Other terms frequently encountered and synonymous with VoIP are IP telephony, Internet telephony, voice over broadband (VoBB), broadband telephony, and broadband phone.
Internet telephony refers to communications services—voice, facsimile, and/or voice-messaging applications—that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network (PSTN). The basic steps involved in originating an Internet telephone call are conversion of the analog voice signal to digital format and compression/translation of the signal into Internet protocol (IP) packets for transmission over the Internet; the process is reversed at the receiving end

LAN                                                                                                                        To Top

A Local Area Network (LAN) is a high-speed communications system designed to link computers and other data processing devices together within a small geographic area, such as a workgroup, department, or building. Several LANs can also be interconnected within a campus of buildings to extend connectivity (also called a Wide Area Network or WAN). This allows users to electronically share vital computing resources, such as expensive hardware (e.g. printers and CD-ROM drives), application programs, and information.

Local Area Networks implement shared access technology. This means that all of the devices attached to the LAN share a single communications medium, usually twisted-pair or fiber-optic cable. A physical connection to the network is made by putting a network interface card (NIC) inside the computer and connecting it to the network cable. Once the physical connection is in place, the network software manages communications between stations on the network.

SIP                                                                                                                       To Top

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol used for establishing sessions in an IP network. A session could be a simple two-way telephone call or it could be a collaborative multi-media conference session. The ability to establish these sessions means that a host of innovative services become possible, such as voice-enriched e-commerce, web page click-to-dial, Instant Messaging with buddy lists, and IP Centrex services.

IP                                                                                                                          To Top
IP is the primary network protocol used on the Internet, developed in the 1970s. On the Internet and many other networks, IP is often used together with the Transport Control Protocol (TCP) and referred to interchangeably as TCP/IP.
IP supports unique addressing for computers on a network. Most networks use the IP version 4 (IPv4) standard that features IP addresses four bytes (32 bits) in length. The newer IP version 6 (IPv6) standard features addresses 16 bytes (128 bits) in length.
Data on an IP network is organized into packets. Each IP packet includes both a header (that specifies source, destination, and other information about the data) and the message data itself.

When is it ok to shut down my system to clear issues.                                                                                                                          To Top

Your phone system is basically a computer. Unlike your computer though, which you shut down often, a phone system is much more susceptible to problems once you power it back up due to the fact that its been running 24 / 7 for years possibly and also much more hardware than a normal computer.

For these reasons, Extenda recommends that you only shut down your system only in cases of emergency or if directed by Extenda personnel. If you do shut down your system to hopefully clear a problem, Extenda recommends you do it early in the day or the next morning if you are having issues at night. This will be the best time to do this because if restarting your phone system causes it to not come back up, Extenda can more quickly dispatch a technician to provide assistance.

If you have your phone systems programming software and can do a soft restart of your system, this is always recommended over a hard restart as a first attempt.

Yes, Extenda does service residences. We can assist you with any phone or home network needs you may have for your home business. Extenda can also assist you with buying a new phone system to install in your home. Be very careful when it comes to getting quotes for any type of work or service done to your home business. The cabling that exist in a home is much different in many cases than a commercial building. Working with a company who is not familiar with the difficulties of home wiring can be costly in the long run. Be sure to have a physical inspection of your home before signing any contracts of work to be done.
